It was standing room only for Singapore’s inaugural Pitchflix REV event, held in JTC Corporation’s fabulous Galleries space this past Wednesday.
As Founders, we’re so often on the back foot – balancing building pipeline, managing operations and actually delivering work – raising feels like an impossible add-on, the proverbial straw that breaks the camel’s back. But perhaps the biggest take away from last week was that with the right Investor, you should get more than money. You should get partnership, support, community from a team you like, that likes you, too. It was wonderful to see the Investors who joined us not just speaking to the crowd, but taking time to get to know the Founders 1:1 afterwards – asking: could this be a mutually beneficial relationship? Are you someone I could work with and trust?
Finding the right Investor remains an exercise in perseverance, hard graft and salesmanship; but what we learned Wednesday is that it also a test of human connection and – more importantly – ACCESS so that you can find out whether that connection exists. And while a single reverse pitching event can’t solve for everything, it can create a new access point, a new opportunity for Founders and Investors to get to know each other– beyond just a pitch deck in an email. And that’s a huge win.
Thanks to Shane Smith and the Pitchflix team, to JTC and, most importantly, to the Founders and Investors that shared their time and their enthusiasm.
