At UK SEA Tech Week last week in Bangkok and Ho Chi Minh City, hundreds of people gathered to discuss the strengths of UK tech and to explore business opportunities in the SEA, a region that is on track to be the 4th largest economy in the world and set to have a £1tn tech ecosystem by 2030.
Bridging the UK and SEA ecosystems was a key focus for the conference, as was building impactful connections. Helmed by Global Tech Advocates lead for APAC, Leslie Sarma, Tech Singapore Advocates (represented by Nicky van Domburg) participated in an energetic discussion on ‘Harnessing the Power of Collaboration’.
Introduced by founder of Global Tech Advocates Russ Shaw, CBE, the panel discussed the strengths and opportunities in SEA. Nicky and Leslie were joined by fellow GTA leaders for Southeast Asia (now with its own official acronym of GTA SEAL) Raj Mendhir and Aaron Sarma (Malaysia) Chidapa Chanthong (Thailand) Amor Maclang (Philippines) and Nicole Nguyen (Vietnam).
The GTA SEAL are committed to fostering collaboration within their own respective countries, as well as across the region. In addition to this panel session, delegates learnt more about the UK tech ecosystem, trade digitalisation, raising capital, government support, and thematic workshops on AI, quantum, engineering biology, open data and semiconductors.
