This series is brought to you in conjunction with:

Could you share more about your internationalisation programs and how they support your home-grown tech businesses expanding globally?

The TCS supports Canadian companies scaling globally through targeted internationalisation programs. The Canadian Technology Accelerator (CTA) helps high-potential firms enter key global tech hubs through market immersion, mentorship, and access to investors and partners. The Canadian International Innovation Program (CIIP) enables companies to pursue co-innovation with international partners, supporting R&D collaboration and commercialization, and is available in key markets globally, including Singapore. Together, these initiatives have helped Canadian firms validate technologies, secure strategic partnerships, attract investment, and expand into priority global markets.

Singapore is known for its strong innovation ecosystem. Have you seen that in action?

Singapore is widely recognized as a launchpad to Southeast Asia and a gateway for Canadian businesses to the broader Indo-Pacific, supported by its strong global connectivity and pro-business environment. We work closely with partners such as Enterprise Singapore and the Economic Development Board to support bilateral trade and help Canadian firms establish and grow their presence in the region.

A key strength of Singapore’s innovation ecosystem is its role as a global convenor. Flagship events such as the Singapore Week of Innovation and Technology (SWITCH) and Singapore International Water Week (SIWW) provide valuable platforms for foreign companies to build networks, showcase solutions, and engage with partners from across Asia and beyond.

When startups from your country enter the Singapore market, what are some of the most common challenges or support needs they face?

When Canadian companies enter Singapore, they benefit from a business-friendly, well-regulated environment that aligns closely with Canada’s innovation strengths. While there may be some differences in business practices or market dynamics, these are generally easy to navigate with the support of the Trade Commissioner Service (TCS) and our partners in the local ecosystem.

Why should Singaporean startups explore your market as part of their own global expansion journey?

Canada is a globally trusted destination for tech-driven expansion, offering foreign companies an innovation-led platform for growth. As one of the world’s most politically and economically stable countries, Canada provides access to 1.5 billion consumers across 51 countries through its free trade agreements. Its ICT sector is a powerhouse of innovation, spanning AI breakthroughs and next-generation connectivity, supported by the world’s most educated workforce. Companies can also benefit from Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED) tax incentives, Clean Economy Investment Tax Credits (ITCs), and access to critical minerals and sustainable natural resources—enabling scalable, long-term global success.
